Hail to the King!

Hello there! As some of you may know, I'm a huge Avenged Sevenfold fan and they've recently released their new album, "Hail to the King", which was very exciting for fans since the band hadn't released a new album since "Nightmare" which they released in July, 2010! I was so happy when I finally got my hands on a copy of the album, I've been a fan of the band since I was 11 so when you've been a fan for that long it's always exciting to hear new material.
With each of Avenged's album their sound changes and each album is on a different level from the last and with 6 albums now under their belt you'd think there was no room for improvement but you'd be surprised. This band have an unreal talented for producing amazing music and for writing deadly songs with so many instrumental layers but they're also brilliant at stripping back a song and making it so simple yet still so versatile.

I was going to go through each song on the album and give a short review of each song but that would take awhile and I'd probably just end up repeating myself so I'll just give my overall view of the album. The album is so different to anything they've done before but it still has the Avenged Sevenfold feel to it, so if you're a fan you will love this album but because it's so different to their older stuff if you don't like their other albums you might like this one! All the songs are so heavy, even the slower ones are heavy, if that makes sense. Each song packs it's own punch whether it be a little one or a HUGE, GIGANTIC ONE! If you're not a fan of heavy music then I wouldn't recommend this album because if you know Avenged Sevenfold you'll know they aren't known for using their instruments lightly.
Another thing I love about their music is their song lyrics. I don't know how M Shadows comes up with them, he's just a genius! Probably the most distinctive thing about Avenged Sevenfold's music is the guitars. Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance are some of the best guitarists there is, and they have a very distinctive sound and way of playing their instruments. On this album they just bring the guitars to a whole new level, they layer each song with so many different sounds and with so many different instruments that they all just mold together to form this masterpiece of music!
Who can talk about Avenged Sevenfold music and not mention the drums? In 2009 the band's drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, sadly past away and he was an incredible musician and not only on the drums! He had such a unique singing voice and he was also very skilled on the piano, guitar and many other instruments. He also had an amazing talent for writing music and it was such a tragedy when he passed away and he left such big shoes to fill when the band announced that they were going to continue on, which was great news for all the fans because The Rev had helped write the album "Nightmare" just before he past away and one of the songs on the album, "Fiction", was the last song he wrote before he past away so it was great for the world to hear what this musical hero had left us to remember him by. The band had a temporary drummer when recording "Nightmare" and when touring until they found the perfect drummer, which I think they did! Young, Arin Ilejay became an official member of the band in 2013 and you can really hear him showcase his amazing talent on this album! He's really got the Avenged sound down so well on this album which is great because he had such huge shoes to fill after Jimmy.
All in all, Hail to the King is an incredible album if you're a fan of heavy metal and I shall be seeing Avenged Sevenfold in concert in December so if you enjoyed this post look out for a concert review around then because they are known for putting on a deadly show! Also, I've changed the layout of my blog if you hadn't noticed. Leave me a comment of what you think of it, and if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to contact me! Thanks for reading :)

RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan 1981-2009
